Objectives

Dear Friends of the MUSICA SACRA,

Since centuries sacred music has been practiced in the cathedral of Mainz, the MUSICA SACRA. Nowadays besides the new great organ this music is offered by the cathedral choirs which are performing sacred music during the services and performing in concerts to the praise of god and for the pleasure of the people.

More than 400 mostly younger people meet enthusiastic on a regular basis to rehearse or perform in the cathedral or on tour on locations all over the world. This commitment empowered and accompanied by a deep fundamental education in music based on a value oriented environment which also strengthens  the personal development of the young singers.

Besides the fantastic engagement of the conductors of the choirs also a solid financial support is necessary. This is done on side by the contributions of the cathedral chapter of Mainz, on the other side by private donations which are organized by the support association „Förderverein MUSICA SACRA am Hohen Dom zu Mainz e. V.“ which has been founded in 1991. The honorary leaded support association has committed itself to support the choirs and ensembles in complying with their musical duties during the cathedral services, to promote the musical education of the young singers and to facilitate the cathedral choirmaster and the cathedral organist in their responsibility for the MUSICA SACRA.

This is done in particular by grants to the concerts inside the cathedral, by studentships for young singers and by acquirements of instruments. Since its foundation in 1991 MUSICA SACRA has been provided by the friends association with more than 750,000 Euro.

To continue in this effort MUSICA SACRA also needs a lot of friends in the future.
